The many uses of red

January 16, 2019

The color red is one of the most diverse colors used in Feng Shui. It can be used to increase the flow of chi (energy) or to stop the flow of chi. Red is a power color and knowing how to use it correctly is key.

Be careful when using red to paint walls. Too much red can easily turn into a disaster. Too much red may evoke feelings of intense excitement or anger/hostility. In a couples room, the overuse of red can lead to senseless bickering over small things and picking on one another. Red accents however are amazing in a couple's bedroom as it heats up the room and increases the romance, spicing up the relationship.

In a child's room or nursery, the color red is a usually a bad idea. Too much red is overwhelming and children respond to that by showing signs of aggression and not being able to focus, they may have trouble falling asleep at night as well. Tip: Orange is a great color for kids' rooms.

As most homes lack the fire element, I do encourage you to incorporate the color red within your home, but use it within the decor more than on the walls as far as bedrooms are concerned. If you or someone in your homes suffers from stress or anxiety, depression or ADHD I recommend avoiding the color or using it very sparingly.
